MAT RATS CLASS 7A PREVIEW 2012-2013
FAVORITES: PIERZ PIONEERS and the HOLDINGFORD HUSKIERS
The Pioneers had a great season last year as they posted a very impressive dual marks of 26-6. Back from their section championship team are six state qualifiers, three section place winners and one other with a great deal of experience. Despite the graduation of four section place winners including three state qualifiers. Look for the Pioneers to challenge those awesome dual meet marks from last season. Also look for them to make a strong challenge for conference and section honors, as well possibly some type of state hardware. Chris Ortman, Brad Meyer, Kolton Eischens, Evan Woitalla, Ryley Smude and Nick Lochner to be their key leaders thru out the season.
The Huskers had very good dual meet marks last season; back from that excellent team are twelve section place winners including four state place winners and four others with a great deal of varsity experience. Despite the graduation of three seniors including one state place winners, look for the Huskers to make a very strong challenges for both conference and section honors. They could challenge those dual meet marks from last season if they stay healthy and continue to improve over the season. Trevor Scott, Zach Scott, Kyle Gerads, Mitch Messman and Jordan Gombos should be their key leaders thru out the season.
DARKHORSES: AITKIN GOBBLERS and the ROYALTON ROYALS
The Gobblers posted a very good dual meet marks of 14-5 and a conference championship. Returning from that team are eight section place winners, three of which were state qualifiers and three others with some varsity experience. They did graduate seven seniors last spring including five section place winners, two of which were state qualifiers. But look for the Gobblers to challenge those dual meet marks from last season. They should once again be a major force within the conference and push for a top four spot in the section dual meet campaign. Brian Wold, Adam Bast, Isaac Novak, Jerod Novak, Alan Bast and Jack Braton should be their key leaders thru out the season.
The Royals will return six section place winners including two state qualifiers and eight others with a great deal of experience. Despite the graduation of two seniors including one state place winner. Look for the Royals to improve on those dual meet marks from last season. If they stay healthy and a couple of wrestlers return to the mat after sitting out last season they should make a strong challenge for conference honors and challenge for a top four spot in this section dual meet campaign. Mitch Lange, Cory Wensmann, Brady Moulzolf, Tyler Hegna and Shawn Urbanski should be their key leaders thru out the season.
Look for the Raiders of Mille Lacs and the Patriots of Minneapolis Patrick Henry to push for a top four spot in the section. There is one medal winner back from last season; Zack Scott of Holdingford earned 6th Place. There are a total of seventeen state qualifiers returning from last year's state tourney action. Those not mentioned about are Nik Borchert and Luke Thompson of Mille Lacs.
