MAT RATS CLASS 5A PREVIEW 2012-2013
FAVORITES: ATWATER-COSMOS-GROVE CITY FALCONS and the PAYNESVILLE BULLDOGS
The Falcons of Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City will be looking to improve those very good dual meet numbers of 23-7 from last season. They will return five state qualifiers, two of which were state place winners, four section place winners and three others with a great deal of varsity experience. Despite the graduation of five seniors including four state qualifiers three were state place winners. The Falcons will be looking to improve on those dual meet marks and to defend their honors in the West Central Conference. They will be looking for section and potentially some state tourney honors. Larry Bomstad, Logan Peterson, Tyler Berghuis, Maverick Whitcomb and Lucas Damm should be their key leaders thru out the season.
The Bulldogs of Paynesville had very solid dual meet marks last season, but they will be looking to make some improvement on those numbers. They will return five section place winners and eight others with a great deal of experience. Despite the graduation of four section place winners including a state champion. Look for this young team to make steady progress thru out the season. They should become a force to be dealt with in the conference. The Bulldogs should challenge for a top four spot in the section dual meet campaign. Clay Spanier, Caleb Burris, Tanner Harder and Jacob Mages should be their key leaders thru out the season.
DARKHORSES: KIMBALL CUBS and the BELGRADE-BROOTEN-ELROSA JAQUARS
The Cubs of Kimball had an awesome season as they put up 34-1 dual meet marks. They return from the State Runner Up team seven section place winners including five state qualifiers, two section place winners and four others with a great deal of varsity experience. Despite they graduated four section place winners including three state tourney wrestlers. They will be looking to challenge those numbers and will be hard pressed to do that but they will be looking to defend their conference title and to be one of those top four teams in this section dual meet campaign. Quinten Berres, Marcus Hamer, Austin Schiefelbein, Travis Willis and the addition of Blane Tschida a transfer from Coon Rapids should be their key leaders thru out the season.
The Jaguars of Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa had a very good season last year with 11-9 dual meet marks; back from that team are six section place winners, including three state qualifiers and five others with a great deal of varsity experience. Despite the graduation of three seniors including two section place winners they should improve on those dual meet marks from last season. Look for the Jaguars to be a force to be reckon with in the conference duals and in this section dual meet campaign. Patrick Rooney, Ross Rath, Tyler Tensen and Josey Tensen should be their key leaders thru out the season.
Look for the Silverstreaks of Osakis and the Eagles of Eden Valley-Watkins to push for a top four spot in the section.
