MAT RATS CLASS 3A PREVIEW 2012-2013

MAT RATS CLASS 3A PREVIEW 2012-2013

FAVORITES: KERKHOVEN-MURDOCK-SUNBURG FIGHTING SAINTS and the WABASSO/RED ROCK CENTRAL BOBCATS

The Fighting Saints posted great dual meet marks of 15-4 last season. Back from the section runner up team are ten section place winners, including two state qualifiers and seven others with a great deal of experience. Despite the fact that they graduated three section place winners including two state qualifiers. Look for the Fighting Saints to challenge those dual meet numbers. They should be looking for section honors and possibly some state hardware this season. Jordan Rothers, Jordan Engler, Cody Peters, Zach Carlson and Kyle Baker to be their key leaders thru out the season.

The Bobcats of Wabasso/Red Rock Central should make another strong challenge for section honors. Back from their 27-4 team include section runner up honors are seven section place winners, which includes five state qualifiers and seven others with a great deal of experience. They did graduate five last spring including four state qualifiers, three of those were state place winners. They did lose a great deal thru graduation and yet look for the Rabbits to be one of those top class A teams in Minnesota. Tanner Rohlik, Spencer Jenniges, Derek Christians, Alex Schroepher and Blake Altermatt should be their key leaders thru out the season. They got a huge boost with the transfer of A. J. Fulton (Dawson-Boyd/LQPV) who was a state qualifier last season.

DARK HORSES: MINNEOTA VIKINGS and the CANBY LANCERS

The Vikings of Minneota will have back from their 25-3 season, which included Class A third place honors and a conference championship. They have back four section place winners, three of which were state qualifiers and six others with a great deal of experience. They did graduate eight seniors, six were state qualifiers and four of those were state place winners. This is a huge loss and they will have a tough time challenging those dual meet marks from last season. But look for this team to make great strides thru out the season, to make a strong challenge to defend their conference and section honors. Isaac Josephson, Landyn VanOverbeke, Bryce Bruner, Nicholas Esping should be their key leaders thru out the season. They will also get a huge boost with the return of Alec Engler injured last season, was 26-13 and a section champion two years ago.

The Lancers of Canby return from their 17-12 dual meet campaign two section place winners and eleven others with varsity experience. They did graduate four section place winners including one state qualifier. The Lancers should continue to improve over the course of the season, look for them to push for that top four spot in this very good section dual meet campaign. John Deslauriers, Christian Full, and Nick Stoks should be their key leaders thru out the season.

Look for the Arrows of Pipestone and the Bold Warriors to push for a top four spot in the section. There are two medal winners back from last season; Jordan Rothers of Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg earned second place and Tanner Rohlik of Wabasso/Red Rock Central earned fifth place. There are a total of thirteen state qualifiers returning from last year's state tourney action. Those not mentioned above are: Brady Zitzman of BOLD, Morgan Staton and Tyler Jensen of Benson.

Look for the following wrestlers: Ben Matter of Wabasso/Red Rock Central, Austin Rothers, Nick Meyer, Chase Norton and Alex Mond of Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg, Cole Hennen of Minneota, Quentin Beiningen and Jack Citrowske of Canby, Alex Hatch, Brett Grund, Trevor Nissen, and Bennie Garcia of BOLD, Walker Kor, Alex Ossefort, Brady Bos, Cole Nordmeyer and Elijah Everson of Pipestone to challenge for medals at the end of the season.
