MAT RATS CLASS 6A PREVIEW 2012-2013
FAVORITES: BARNESVILLE TROJANS and the NEW YORK MILLS EAGLES
The Trojans of Barnesville posted a 23-6 dual meet mark last season and earned the section 6A championship and Class A 6th Place honors last season. Back from that young team are ten section place winners including five state qualifiers and five others with varsity experience. They did graduate one section place winner last spring and he was a state qualifier. The Trojans have ten wrestlers back with twenty wins or more. Look for continued improvement with this young team thru out the season. They should make a strong challenge to defend their section title and again earn some hardware at the state tourney. Stuart Brandt, Kyle Johnson, Isaac Goedtke, Conner Meyer and Rylee Anderson should be their key leaders thru out the season.
The Eagles had a good season last year as they posted 14-5 dual meet numbers and they were the Conference Champions. Back from that team are eight section place winners including three state tourney wrestlers and five others with varsity experience. Despite the graduation of four section place winners including one state qualifier. They should challenge those dual meet marks from last season. Look for the Eagles to make a strong bid to defend their conference honors and to challenge for section honors. Shane Novak, Noah Pesola, Tyler Patron, Jeremiah Harper, Max Carlson and Tyler Ehnert should be their key leaders thru out the season.
DARKHORSES: BORDER WEST BUCCANEERS and the BERTHA-HEWITT/VERNDALE RAIDERS
The Buccaneers posted good dual meet mark of 17-10 despite all the injuries and sickness they went thru last season. Back from that team are six section place winners, including four state qualifiers and five others with a great deal of experience. Despite the graduation of two section place winners they should improve on those dual meet numbers. They should make a very strong challenge for one of those top four spots in what could be a very good section dual meet campaign. Cameron Sykora, Gus McCarthy, Austin Maanum, Nick Stafford and Tracer Lee should their key leaders thru out the season.
The Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale Raiders posted good dual meet marks; but they are hoping to make an improvement on that this season. Despite the graduation of two seniors including one state place winners. Look for the Raiders to make a challenge for Conference honors and to be one on those top four teams in the section dual meet campaign. Dillan Card, Justin Gordan, Andrew Bounds, Dakota Finck and Dalton Baker should be their key leaders thru out the season.
Look for the Bulldogs of Ottertail Central and the Vikings of Pelican Rapids to push for a top four spot in the section. There are five medal winners back from last season including Cameron Sykora of Border West earned his 2nd State Championship, Shane Novak of New York Mills earned State Championship, Gus McCarthy of Border West earned 4th Place, Conrad Kondos of Breckenridge earned 4th Place, Tyler Schlosser of Prairie Valley earned 4th Place. There are a total of seventeen state qualifiers returning from last year's state tourney action. Those not mentioned above are: Jesus Romero of Pelican Rapids, Josh Stuehrenberg of Breckenridge.
